Planning a pregnancy
Babies are cute. Whether they are skinny, plump, bald, or full of curls, babies are a gift. One thing that babies are not is predictable. But, if you are ready for a little bundle, the best advice you will ever get is to plan and plan well.
It’s funny to think of a pregnancy as a planned event. On television, you see the wife feeling poorly in the morning for several weeks and then she goes to the doctor. Voila! She’s going to have a baby. The look of shock and joy is the same throughout all the shows.
What they don’t show you is the swollen feet, the trips to the doctor, and the following lifetime. The surprise of imminent birth is often overshadowed by what happens after the baby comes into the world. Every parent wants to make the world special for their children but it can be a hard thing to do sometimes when baby comes unexpectedly.
Planning for a baby doesn’t take away any of the surprise of the birth. One thing that planning does do is make the parents more secure in their ability to provide for their baby’s needs. So, how do you plan for a baby?
- A mother needs the best care that she can get during this crucial time of her life. Finding the perfect health care provider for her and the future addition to her family is important. Visit obstetrician offices and pediatricians in the area to see who is taking new patients and what their credentials are.
- In a world where it takes two people working to pay the bills, childcare is a necessity. But, not just anyone can take care of your children. Finding a good daycare is important since your kids will be there at least eight hours out of the day. You want your bouncing babies to be happy to see you in the afternoon, but not scared to death the whole time you are separated.
- Planning a pregnancy also involves taking a look at the family finances. If you already have a child, another child will mean more money to be spent. Let’s face it. Children don’t come cheap. If this is your first child, your budget will need to stretch and some of those nights out now will need to be traded for diapers, breast milk or formula, and lack of sleep.
Now, let’s get to the business of taking care of you. After all, the planning of mom’s health is just as important as babies. It will be a nine month long process, but you can do it. Don’t cry when the scale says that you have gained twenty pounds. The extra pounds can be taken care of later and besides you shouldn’t care one bit that you are gaining weight because that’s your baby and you’re nurturing it to be healthy. Just keep on doing what the doctor tells you so you can see that beautiful face one day.
Even when you plan, there are still plenty of surprising moments to look forward to with your baby. The difference will be your peace of mind because you have taken the time to prepare and do what’s right and necessary to have a healthy pregnancy.
